I have a Craftsman LT 1000 sit on mower that has a leaking gas tank?

I recently purchased a Craftsman LT 1000 sit on lawnmower at an Auction. However, I have since found that there is a gas leak along the seam of the fuel tank. I know of an other individual who had the identical problem with his unit. Was there a flaw with the fuel tank of this particular model? Was there a recall for this very problem? Is there an easy way to permanent seal the leak along the joint other then ordering a new one....I have tried a lot of liquid sealers but none of them stand up to the gasoline.

This tank is made out of HDPE and there are only a few adhehsives that will bond to it. None at any retail stores that you might commonly go to. The material can be heat welded easily but you are working with a gas tank...

You might just want to buy a new one unless Sears will cover it..

i also have a lt1000 and have the same problem w\ leaking gas tank. all though mine from the center of the bottom of tank has for lack of better terms created in the middle of the gas tank, like a type of sun pattern w/ multiple cracks. i just bought a new one. w\ past experience of trying to fix plastic gas tanks on motorcross bikes it may be in best interest to buy another one for safety as well as headache. im trying to get at least partial credit from sears no luck yet
