John Deere RX 75 lawn mower stops when engaging mower deck?

The engine stops running when I engage the mower deck. When I went to start the engine the last time I saw a spark down below the key. The only way to run the mower with out stalling the engine was to duct tape the switch below the engage lever.

i have a problem with my rx75.. I have to jump start it on the silonoid.. it runs great until i try to put it in gear, it wants to die... someone said it might be the safety switch under the seat. well i can't find that only a wire with a plugin to something. where would it be at on a rx75? and would that be the cause of both problems?

It's the safety switch under the seat that shuts the mower off if it tips over or you fall off while the blade is turning.
