I have just had the same problem with my contour 1410. There are two plastic hook shaped clips above the switch and about an inch apart. they clip downwards onto a panel behind and having got it apart I can see no way to prise these clips directly. The technique I used to remove the switch panel was to insert a broadish flat bladed screwdriver centrally in the seam above the switch (below the T and R of electrolux) and prise the panel downwards and forwards (having removed the 2 self tappers at the bottom of the panel first!). The clips distorted and released after gently increasing the force and the swear words!. It marked the panels and it is a bit looser on reassembly, but safe because the self tappers won't let it go anywhere.
I had to repair a break in the cable where it enters the cleaner. This I did by prising the bottom of the panel apart, but the switch fell out of its holder so I had to remove the panel.
