Easy job, unplug from mains. Undo the 6 or 8 screws from the inside the door remove front panel, you will find a lose wire that has come away from the body of the door, simply reattach to its position , I used a cable clip to stop it coming lose again. Replace door cover and replace screws. There is a video of this job on YouTube. Just type Indisit I D L 40 lights 2and4 flashing and it will show you how to do the job, takes about 15 minutes.

Lights 2 and 4 flashing are nothing to do with salt, our machine has never had salt added at all, we live in a good water area - it wasnt neccessary. It is (like many have said) a loose thermostat connecter which is easy to rectify. The person who said replace the salt and run it a few times obviously hasnt had the same error, because you CANT run the machine at all until its resolved.

I've had the same problem with mine,it started with flashing lights, at the end of the sequence, but after another couple of washes it started tripping the circuit breaker in my house. From the advice on this site I opened the front and found the loose temperature sensor and it is now washing my dishes happily.

The answer to the problem is that the thermostat has come out of its clip as previously stated and I'm sure if anyone with this problem checks it out it will be that. I also went through other solutions, and the fault disappeared for a while, unfortunately, in my case me fixing the thermostat was too late, and on my machine it had also blown the heater element (big hole in it) so that needed to be replaced. The no Salt or no Rinse aid cure, I must say I've not come across before, but I could be wrong. Please if you have lights 2 & 4 flashing, UNPLUG IT, and undo the top 6 screws in the door tilt the panel down and put the thermostat back in its clip (down & right of middle on the inner metal plate, 10 mins max) before it blows your heater too. Many thanks to whoever put up the solution first.

Agree with the last 2 answers, thermostat was loose. Put it back in place and now working fine. Watch the sharp edges.

Found the answer to this problem on this site,Remove to top six screws from the inside of the door(top).Lower the front section down and inside There is a small thermostat (mine was white)it comes out of a small clip on the door.put it back and secure with a small cable tie this solved the problem on my machine.(I wish to thank the person who put the answer up first of all for me cheers).

I don't think it does mean the salt is out. Ours had lights 2 and 4 flashing (and plenty of salt) and the engineer replaced the "module" (I guess the electronics) to fix it.

Lights 2 and 4 flashing on the IDL40 actually only means that it has run out of salt.
Once you refill the chamber (Left hand side of the base)
it will take 2-3 wash cycles to stop the error flashing.
As a double check, if you have this error, just check the condition of your glass ware. You will notice it is quite cloudy. There you go, free fix.
