had new starter motor fitted, still makes clicking sounds and will not start the engine. any possible indications on what it might be if not battery? thanks.
Id agree with mick, juast add a new earth from battery to block. You can check if this is the fault by running a jumplead from the battery to the block first.

on my diesel van the earth wire from the battery negative goes to a stud on the starter motor. this had a bad connection so i fitted another wire from the engine block to the battery negative terminal.the symptoms were of a flat battery. now it is ok. hope this helps.

If the starter solenoid is good and all leads clean and tight look for an earth lead from the engine to chassis and clean and tighten it,also if a lead runs from starter to alternator check joint at alternator.
