No color to TV with DVD hook-up to Component Video Input (Y, Pa, Pb) on JVC?

Using the Component Video Input (Y, Pa, Pb) on my 27" JVC TV, the picture shows in black and white. Had been working fine until a week ago. I hooked up the DVD player to another television and it worked just fine - got color and everything. I called a repair shop and they said it could be the color chip to that input. Note: this television aslo has front loading inputs for camcorder etc. and that shows in B & W also. Are the two connected and is this something I can repair myself?
