How do I fix my washing Machine?

My washer will not spin out the clothes if there is more than an ex-small load. I know nothing of fixing stuff but I simply can not afford to buy another washer......
All I know is it is a GE washer.

I have a Whirlpool washing machine, and it was dancing across the floor every time the spin cycle came on. I went to the parts shop asking for new springs for the machine. I asked what else could it be making the washing machine vibrate so violently on the spin cylce. The guy told me it is almost never the springs. For under $8 he sold me these three white, plastic clips about 2 inches long, half an inch wide, about a quarter an inch thick. They were cresent shaped, and had two small clips on the bottom. I went home, disconnected my washing machine, turned it over to get to the bottom of it, and there were three legs on the bottom that almost look like a stool. On the top of one of the legs the plastic pieces was missing. I clipped the new piece in in less than 2 minutes. I reconnected the washing machine and can't belive in less than 15 minutes and under $8 it's like a new washing machine. Good luck.

Check out the carbon brushes in the motor. Theyre graphite blocks which transfer mains power to the copper segments of the motor - located at the other end of the motor from the drive pulley. Theyre probably worn down. They're quite cheap parts and easy to replace - the holders are plastic or bakelite and are generally held in with screws or plastic clips. Also, look at the copper segments they run on to check for burning or pitting. If the segments are burnt or damaged you need a replacement motor or a replacement armature (motor part) if you can source one. Occasionally may be a fault in the motor drive circuit board - in which case replacement of board only real option. Also check the drive belt in case its slipping - replace if suspect.
