put bowls of boiling water into the ice/freezer box helps to soften ice put an old towel in the bottom of the cabinet to catch drips and stop water running on to the floor when water cools change for more boiling water as the ice thaws move the bowls to different positions in the ice box Some freezers have a tray with a hole in put a EMPTY BOWL under this to catch the melting water that runs off

(this job is best tackled when freezer is low in food)
