how to fix chain brake?

chain was allowed to get to loose. chain came off. took bar off, inspected and put back. now chain brake won't lock. please explain how chain brake works. chainsaw is a craftsman.

when you took the cover off your chain brake handle came off of the peg that operates it behind the bar cover.
