Mend Buick Regal Car Drive Power

why won't my car move when in drive?

While driving my 1991 Buick Regal, I lose power even though I am stepping on the gas and am in drive. I have to stop,turn off the car, then start it again and put it back into drive. This seems to reset the drive mode.
