Mend Vauxhall Vectra Ball Joint Replace

vectra ball joint?

a friend of mine has said i need to replace the wishbone for a 1998 vectra estate 1.8i 16v, because the ball joint has completely worn away. Is this the case and advisable or can i drill out out rivets the the ball joint and replace with bolts?
