My washing machine is a whirlpool and it will not spin, how can I fix it?

It is an older model whirlpool and it will not go into the spin cycle how do I fix it and what tools do I need to fix it?

My machine had the same problem i was told it didnt have brushes by a service tech so when i opened the case what did i find Brushes they wernt worn out but there was a lot of carbon deposit around where they contact.so i cleaned the carbon off between the brass segments espcially & hey presto back to normal.good lucklet us know how it went.

Take the top off and look for the carbon brushes there should be about 2 of them have a look to see if they are worn. Take them to a hoover spare parts shop or ask to see some so you know what to look for and get the right ones. Good luck and remember to unplug it first.
