We have had exactly the same problem today. We switched it off at the mains, turned the machine on it's side to allow access underneath. We saw that a blue wire with a small white rectangular connection had come out of a small strip socket. We reattached it, turned the machine upright and switched it back on at the mains. We then ran our usual cottons cycle and hey presto! All sorted!
Before attempting this, we had a washing machine repair man come out. He said the circuit board had gone and quoted £100 for repair!!
