my old hoover dryer deluxe model d6074 motor wont turn the drum unless there is a certain amount of washing in it. I put new bearings on the drum which didnt make any difference so i think the motor is weak on the start up, but once it turns the drum its fine and keeps going. I wanted to get a new motor but it is obsolete now.
The motor is not a reversing motor. Any suggestions?
The motor is probably a capacitor start, it is this that kick starts the motor. It is easy to tell. Unplug the mains first! remove the backpanel. The capacitor is a component normally located next to the motor or attached to it. It looks like a shiny aluminium tube about 3 inches long with a nut on one end and two or more wires on the other end. Remove the capacitor but before disconnecting the wires make a note of the connections then short a screwdiver between the terminals as the capactor can hold a charge even when the mains is disconnected. Replace the capacitor with the same value as the original. If this does not work then the motor has probably got shorted turns and cannot be repaired.
