how can I resolve "error has occured in outbox"?

I am novice computer person, cannot unblock outbox to send . Vista program. I was sending emails just fine and all of the sudden "an error has occured now mail is stuck in outbox and is not going to items sent. I assume the outbox is still holding my sent msgs. Help!!!
