Why is water piling up in my fridge?

The water does not go down the hole by the bottom of the fridge. I have cleaned it an prodded it profusely but it still builds up and spills onto the fridge bottom. Do I leave the plug in it or remove it, I have lost the users book. It also makes very strange loud groaning noises at times. Is it worth calling out the repair man or might I better better off buying new. Its only 3years old, Hotpoint Ice Diamond fridge freezer. Grateful for any advice
