I get this too, I have all the latest updates on Vista, and it's only the first instance of explorer that I open that just freezes, I can open another one and that is fine. I have to end task the first one to close it.

Have you got the latest updates from microsoft and the latest version of internet explorer. Try clicking Windows Update, or download the latest internet explorer and updates straight from www.microsoft.com. If this is not the case you may need to update your video drivers. In Control Panel open Device Manager select Display adapters then properties and click update.
