are you getting power into the boiler stat? if so and you are not getting power out into the solenoid then the thesmostat is at fault, mind you this is unusual for a stat to be faulty, also check the live coming into the boiler as the cable may have broken down if its the original,is the system fully pumped or gravity hw and pumped heating

Hi D thanks for your reply, I have laryingitis and everything is a lot slower at the mo becuase of it, please stay with me.

I tested the voltage on the solenoid but nothing is getting through, I also tested the continuity through the wiring and all seems ok, and power is getting through to the pump.

with a multimeter you can check the voltage going in and out,, the thermostat usually has 2 electrical connections,, or with the boiler stat turned up to max and all your controls on you can test for voltage at the solenoid on the gas vaalve

Thanks for the reply, I was away for a week but it worked when I came back and stopped working a week later. I seem to have located a problem - there does not seem to be any power to the solenoid from the boiler control - do you have any ideas where I might get a bioler control for a 30 year old boiler.
