Mend Vauxhall Astra 1700 TD Alarm

How can I find a fault on my Vauxhall Astra alarm system?

My Astra 1700 TD Estate (P reg) alarm has a fault and when set it goes off randomly. It can take between 5 minutes and 5 hours, but rest assured, if set it WILL go off in the middle of the night. Anyone got any knowledge on the best way to trace the fault?

I believe this will be the security alarm's own built in standby battery needing to be replaced.
