How can I fix my Henry Vacuum cleaner?

It tries to start, kicking for about a tenth of a second, pauses tries again, and so on and on. The cable seems ok (have changed plug, still the same fault). Brushes seem fine. All continuity checks seem ok. Waggling cable or bumping machine seems to make no difference. Fault suddenly arrived during normal use. Any ideas?

Thank-you, Chris, for your useful suggestion. i imagined that it must be something to do with the windings (after checking over temp trip). Another motor seems to be the solution.
Do I know you Mr. GRUNTFUTTOCK? WEBB? COX?

Hi.

I do have a sensible answer.

But the one given by Albert Gruntfuttock was absoloutly brilliant I was crying with laughter reading it MORE PLEASE.

Ok this is what the problem is.
If you check the wires that come directly from the windings on the field coil you will see that one end has got hot & burnt in doing this it not making A decent connection with the mail spade termonal so as you switch on it initialy starts then as current builds up it looses connection.

George,
The answer is simple; you should not be interfering with something that is clearly women’s work. A vacuum cleaner is completely within the responsibilities of your good lady wife, it is hers to use and hers to repair when it goes wrong. You should not be worrying yourself with such trivial matters. My suggestion would be for you to register your wife on an electrical repair course. This may well mean that the faulty unit can be economically repaired well before it is next needed by her on December 24th. It appears to me that you may have let things drift a little with guidance of your wife’s responsibilities. My suggestion is that you should consider early retirement in order for you to supervise her more closely and get her back on track.

Good luck!
