Mend Sony 1GB Memory Stick Usb

How can I download onto my Sony 1GB Memory stick when it says it is full?

My usb memory stick is empty. There is absolutely no data on it. When I try to download jpg. pictures onto it, it says there is no space left. What does this mean?
