Why won't the heater on my Y reg Peugeot 206 turn off?

The heater on my Y reg Peugeot 206 GLX 1.9 HDI will not turn off or respond to altering the fan speed settings. The climate control display shows what I have changed the settings to, the temperature changes but nothing else happens: the fan keeps blowing at top speed even when I turn it off. Please help, the noise is driving me mad!

I’ve had the opposite problem – the fan was working, but the speed control stuck between speeds and now the fan doesn’t work at all. Having taken the control unit out I’ve discovered that the speed control has burned out. The only option is to replace the control SA. The cost for a used unit is about £50.00 from a breakers.
