Why do I keep losing my internet connection?

I recently received a letter from my isp (talktalk) saying they were "installing new equipment in your telephone exchange", but since then the broadband just hasn't worked properly. First the ADSL light on my wireless Belkin modem (on the front it says ADSL Modem with Wireless G Router- 2.4Ghz-802.11g) was always flashing, this was fixed by changing the filter. It worked perfectly for a couple days and the ADSL light is still on but now the internet won't connect for more than two hours at most, sometimes just for 20-30 seconds, I don't know what to try as I'm not very good with computers. Is it my modem that isn't working correctly or something else and if it's my modem what can I try to get it working? Other than resetting it because I've tried that already.

I have the same problem after swapping from Orange BB to Talktalk BB with fone. I never had any dropouts with Orange at all. But ever since I swapped its constantly dropping. PLugged the router into the BT test socket, ... no dropouts. However that;s not practical. As soon as I put the faceplate back omn and started using the main socket (also not practical for me as my PC is upstairs and I need to run off an extension socket) the dropouts started again. Talktalk second line was called and they tweaked some settings. Originally I was showing 8mb down and 750K up bandwidth, now im down to 4Mb (indicated)... and im still dropping out. When I told them I had no probs with orange, they said they used a different kind of signal.... Im no expert but that sounds like utter BS. What p*sses me off the most is that Im now tied into an 18 month contract... is there ANYTHING I can do ?? would changing from the EcholifeHG520b Router to something else, ie Belkin or Netgear help???

Ok i think i am having a similar problem.
Randomly i will lose connection to the router and the router has lost connection to the internet, i can tell this because the ADSL and Internet light have gone off for about 10 seconds and come back on, after about 20 seconds it comes back on and i can connect again. But it is so annoying i want to know how to fix it.

On my ip address it says i am running at:
Download speed - 6657 kb/s
Upload Speed - 802 kb/s

My router is one given from talk talk
Its the Echolife HG520b

Any suggestions how i can stop my router losing connection to the internet. (ADSL and internet lights go off for a couple of seconds)

Thanks, Jack.

talk talk are sh*t. I work for BT, sales advisor (were not too good) and all i get all day is people telling me they want to change from talk talk b'cos they are w*nk, always loosing connection. Get a BT Line and explore, or give them notice and leave.

Have you tried checking what the noise margin and attenuation levels are showing on your dsl router since the work was carried out? If this is ADSL the noise margin should be above 8.5dB and Attenuation below 65dB, if not this could be the reason for the flaky connection.

I had the same problem as yours. Now still not working properly. Talk Talk kept blaming it is the router because it is not their preferred product. Bullshxxt to Talk Talk.

Solution is to continously/frequently go to Belkin page to manually click the manual connection.

I am st*cked with Talk talk even how much I h*te their guts.

If it worked before Talk Talk did the works and does not now then I would suspect they have screwed something up. Why not call Talk Talk and ask them to fix whatever they have done. For example they could have installed new kit at the exchange that the modem in your router can't cope with. (You don't say what model it is.)
