How can I stop the Start/pause button flashing on my Zanussi Jetsystem IZ12?

I got this machine from my brother, with no manual. I'm trying to get it to run a cycle, but the start/pause button continuously flashes no matter what I do.
any suggestions?

the fault is caused by carbon dust build up on the electric control board allowing the circuit to track out. remove the board and clean it with electrical cleaner solution similar to computer cleaning fluid -no grease or oil. HTH

My wife claims that she bangs the control panel at the right hand side continuously and quickly for about 20 seconds and this usually works! However - I'd love to get a proper fix. Someone suggested unplugging for a couple of hours. Trying this now.
