where can I get a blacklight inverter for sylvania model 6620ldt.. thanks

I have a 19 inch sylvania lc195ssx with the same problem. After accessing the circuit boards, I immediately noticed corrosion in several areas. This tv was bought in december of 2009. After flipping over all the boards to check for additional corrosion, I cleaned what was necessary with contact cleaner and a small stiff brush. There were no obvious bad diodes, but they don't always have to look bad to be bad. Could have been the transistors also. Not so in my case. I plugged it back in and it's been working fine. The corrosion acts as a resistor which causes heat which causes more resistance, etc. Eventually the tv will shut down. Hope this helps someone.

This worked for me too. 66 cent part saved me hundreds! Thanks!

Will it necessarily look burnt? I have one with the same problem but the diode looks ok.

B Dean: The diode is on the board on smaller board on the right hand side about half way up

Thanks J. Brown. I opened the case, carefully removed the small board on the right side (looking from the back of set). Located D309 (replacement part NTE139A from Mouser.com for 66 cents). Removed the D309 and replaced the part. When ordering, they send 2 Zeners per package, so now I have 11 extra! Set is working again with slow but careful effort. Thanks again!

WOW!!! Thanks J. Brown. I have VERY limited electronic skills. I simply opened up the back, found diode D309, bought a cheap soldering iron, bought the $1 diode part online, and with a pair of nail clippers did the replacement with no problem at all. TV works great now! Thanks again!

So where do I find the bad diode(s). Is it a simple remove and solder in job?

Thanks for the help.

THANKS J Brown!! This fix also works for model Sylvania/Funai model # 6620LDT's inverter board. Replaced D309 with a 9.1 volt, 1 watt zener and the set plays now. NTE part number is NTE139A. I had the same symptom on this set. It would shut itself off after about 10 seconds.

This smacks of a design error to me. It would appear that they have the over-voltage protection circuitry set a bit too tight. This about drove me nuts to fix since the parts were acting as they should, however wrong it is for the application....

Thanks much,
Bob H

Replacing D309 seems to work just fine! Easy repair, and the tv seems to be running again!. Thanks for the tip, and I'd recommend it to others with the same problem. No telling how long the fix will last, but it definitely got better!

I was just given a SSL2006 TV and it has the exact same problem - after poking around on the internet, it looks pretty common. I took out my backlight inverter board and found (like J. Brown) the D309 zener diode was burnt. I also noted that the D308 diode was fried. Maybe the manufacturers just didn't do a good job speccing out that particular diode? Per his comment, I went ahead and ordered some DO-41 style 9.1V Zener Diodes from Mouser - I'll let you know if it works out! Hopefully the 9.1V one will replace D308 as well. Thanks for the tip J. Brown.

Hi, I have one, same model, that turned on and then turned itself off after a while. When it was cold it stayed on for 5-7 minutes but after it warmed up it shut off in about 7-10 seconds. I mean really cold as in my garage. The problem was the backlight inverter. I just bought it on eBay because I had another TV (Emerson) with the same boards and I needed a lcd screen. I changed the inverter board on the Sylvania because I liked the looks of it better. It was also easier than taking every thing apart. The repair only took about 15 minutes. All Emerson, Sylvania, Funai and Symphonic Tv's from the same years are identical inside and are all made by Funai Corp. If it isn't under warranty your best bet is to find a Tv, any of the above brands, on eBay with a broken screen for the parts. It is really easy to change out the boards. The parts by themselves are really expensive. ($ 140.00 +) I bought the whole TV for $ 35.00. But call around to the sylvania dealers in your area. They may have a good board from a broken tv they will sell reasonably. If you need any more info just email me.

I had a set that came in with the same problem. it would have a great picture and sound for about 10 seconds and then turn off. i traced this defect to the illumination board ( this is the smaller board on the right looking from the back. ) There is a zener diode labeled D309 on this board. I replaced this diode with a 9.1 volt zener diode and this solved the problem with this set. i don't know for sure if it will solve your problem but it is for your info.

My SSL2006 had the same problem, tv cuts off when turned on. Under warranty, the local auth. repair shop tried unsuccessfully to replace parts to fix it. In addition, the repair shop told me it was difficult getting thru to parts support. Either the wrong parts were sent, the right part didn’t work, or additional authorization was required to repair TV. On many occasions I made calls to Sylvania, on the repair shops urging, to find out the status on its repair parts to help get the right parts sent. The set was in an auth repair shop from Feb.-Aug. The shop couldn't fix it. It was sent to Sylvania's repair center in CA, August 18th. WHEN WILL I GET MY TV BACK? I want a new TV!! I have been without this TV for over 6 mos.! I'm very upset with customer service and its repair centers and will never buy nor will I recommend purchasing a Sylvania product.
