I have a crafsman riding mower #917.258532, 15.5 hp.When you turn the switch it dosn't click or anything. Battery tests good, replaced interlock switch to clutch. I put a screw driver across coil and it turns over. Does that mean coil is bad? I'm thinking coil or ignition switch.
Sitting on mower on the right under the battery is wires pull on them you get wire with 30 amp fuse replace it mower will run Ed

I take it that when you say coil you mean starter solenoid. A thin cable goes to the coil from the ignition switch, you should find 12volts at this cable when you try to start. If not then check the cable back to the switch. If you do find 12volts then probably the coil (solenoid) is faulty.

I have a similar problem with my mower. Where is this coil you are talking about? I would like to try and see if I can start my mower that way.
