TV 630 Heating Problem Programmer?

My TV 630 (seem to be a lot of problems with this machine) does not heat. After taking the top off and checking stuff out I gave in and called a repairman. He checked the usual cut-outs and thermostat and tells me the programmer needs replacing. Not sure if I believe that, is it possible that if all else checks out then the programmer could be at fault? I have a source for a replacement programmer at about £40, I would like to be sure before spending about 25% of the value of the machine.

Simon, are you saying that the Thermometer thingy was the problem, not the FilterCare sensor? Cos I's rather not dismantle the casing if it was the thermometer/thermostat. I have something that looks like a resistor and something else that looks like a thick metal disk about 20mm diameter (which I think is the thermal cut-out).

Incidentally, the heater elements under that silver cover seem to be connected between Live and Earth.......

Mine was exhibiting the same problem (filter light on, and no heat)

The sensor on mine was closed circuit (Ian is right, it's a right pig to get to, basically you have to take the whole front off the machine, and remove the top half of the internal drum surround)

Confused, I did a lot more dismantling (well it was enough pieces already ;))

Turned out to be a thermometer in the rear of the machine was on open circuit. If you remove the silver backplate, to access the heater element you will see 2 thermometers wired in series. It was one of these that had failed.

I have a similar problem. The filter care light stays on, and no heat. I think I have tracked it down to the sensor in the filter slot gone open circuit. Its really hard to get at!
