Insinkerator help?

use the allen wrench method n spin it in reverse a dozen turns or so n it may unjam whatever is in there. i had a quarter in mine n it came out. good luck

mine does the same thing. It clearly isn't jammed, as it can spin freely. Against all safety precautions, I stuck a wooden spoon in while it hummed and "helped" it spin. To my astonishment, it slowly accelerated onto full speed. After this I reinspexted the contents, and found a couple chicken bones. After removing th I continued to have the same problem although there is nothing I'm the disposal chamber. I can "help" it moving, but it will not start ok its own. Any advise, or after 3 years is it time to buy another one?

I want to put an end to the wooden spoon trick as I am certain it is rather unsafe, and I highly recommend against doing that to anyone trying to fix their in sink erator 444.

If the motor hums quietly when you turn it on, it's probably jammed. In the bottom of the motor, right in the middle there is a place where you can insert an Allen wrench, insert a wrench, turn a few times. Turn it on again to see if it solves the problem, at least that's how I solved mine.

I have the same problem with a model 5-71 that is about 10 years old. I spoke with an In Sink Erator customer rep. who said it is probably one of the motor switches. Their best advice was to buy a new one since it is out of warranty and the cost for repair would be about 1/2 of a new one at a home improvement store. Sorry for the bad news.

Mine has same problem today. The reset button is popped out and I am hoping that when I've waited 10 minutes or so and press it back in that the unit will function.
