Mend Kirby G4 Going Miles Noticed

Kirby G4 tech-drive - happier going backwards?

My G4 has done some miles now. But recently I've noticed the tech-drive engages more on the backward stroke and is harder to push forward. I don't believe this is just because the roller bar needs replacing (it used to creep forward when the brush was new)

Any ideas please?
