How to put Kirby belt and roller back on?

My belt needed replacing. I took out the roller and old belt. I put the belt on. Then put the roller back in. Belt will not engage properly. I turned handle both ways on front of vacuum. Hook will catch belt but will not stay put. When turned so that hook catches belt, Kirby brand name on front of vacuum is upside down. What am I doing wrong? Please help!!

The hook that catches the belt is only to keep it aligned for removal of Brush base. Once youre done using the hand attachments and put the Foot section back on, turn the front to re-align the "Kirby" right side up. Once it is back in place the belt is driven by the wheel not the holding hook. Look for green light on Base. Should be ok.
