Mend Potterton Puma 80e Boiler Central Heating Diverter Valve

Could a faulty diverter valve cause lockout when the taps are turned off?

I have a potterton puma 80e. The lockout light is comming on after a shower has been taken. It lights once the taps are turned off. The pipes to the central heating get very hot after a about 30 seconds once the taps are turned off, I seem to remember the pipes getting very hot much quicker than that previously. The diverter valve appears to be sticking or working very sluggishly the lockout happens because of over temp. The fan works, the pump is on.

Thanks for the information, I have tested the boiler again, by just turning the tap on and off, on the 3rd try after turning the tap off the gas stayed on and the boiler carried on heating the water. The boiler made a few noises and locked out. So thanks for the info looks like its the flow switch sticking and not the diverter as I thought. Thanks again for the very usefull info. Saved me a lot of money.

Thanks for the answer. Can you give me a brief description of what that part does and how to check it. I understand once the tap is turned off then somehow the boiler has to take the heat away. But I am unsure of the process of which bit does what in this sequence of events.

It sounds more like the diaphragm flow switch is sticking on, the heating comes on to protect the boiler by removing the excess heat.
