How can I fix my Potterton Profile 100e?

Although my Potterton Profile 100e boiler is working, there are symptoms which I fear could indicate that a problem is brewing.

When the boiler tries to light, I hear a fan, a few clicks and then nothing - the fan noise stops. This is repeated multiple times and then eventually it does light successfully. I assume that some part is wearing or on the point of failing. Maybe no spark being generated? I certainly can't see one through the viewing window, but maybe you can't see one anyway.

Any ideas?

Check for dry joints on the PCB, including at the main connector. If the fan is cycling on and off repeatedly, try replacing capacitor C7 (22uF). Best also to replace C4 (22uF) and C6 (4.7 uF) while you're at it. These should be rated for a minimum of 63 volts and ideally 105 C temperature.

I had a new boiler that wouldn't fire at certain times of day. To cut a long story short, it appeared that the gas pressure was slightly too low - so at off-peak times it was OK, but struggled first thing in the morning and when I got in from work. The gas pressure having been increased, it's now fine.

have exactly the same problem, anyone managed to solve it ,and what was it. any answers highly appreciated.

hi, you prob have dry joints on your control board or your pressure switch is faulty...

I have the same thing, I thought it was the ignition but it is the fan not 'kicking in' and so the ignition doesn't spark. If I give my boiler a good bash it started to work but now it can't start without a bash and if I'm out I come home to a freezing house. Must be the fan becoming stuck.
