what is loud ticking noise from top of engine?

just had new head fitted on 2.4 transit diesel.got it back last night,and have noticed loud ticking noise when engine is idling

Could be the tappets (likely) or the cam, Depends on the sound and how loud it is.

If the head was changed, the garage should have put everything back correctly...was this sound there prior to the repair ? You might want to go back there and get them to sort it out.
