My wifes AUTO did the same thing,if it is the same carb from the drivers side look for where the throttle cable goes over a cam,at the bottom of the cam is a plundger that pushes the cam forward it is connected to a black plug held together with a spring clip,prise the clip off and unplug the connection and re plug it a few times to clean it.If you know a little about electrics you could check the live end of the plug with a test lamp(I had 3 live and 1 earth)the bit it connects to is a solenoid you can plug and unplug to see if it is working,it suffers from a bad connection.It seems to have worked for me,you can just about do it with the air filter still on,her car used to do it intermitantly not good with an Auto.Good luck.
