Mend Peugeot 306 LX Light Seconds Cuts

What does the stop warning light mean?

peugeot 306 lx 1999

The stop light comes on for a few seconds at the same time the fan cuts in as if over heating but water levels are still full.

STOP means STOP, you have a serious problem, its just the French way of getting your attention.

What other warning light came on with the STOP one then? red over temp warning light?

Was the temp gauge reading around the middle?

Most likey a dodgy electrical connection to the BROWN temp sensor on the engine.

If the temp sensor goes faulty the STOP & overtemp warning lights will come on & the cooling fans will run as a safety precaution.

The temp gauge is run off another sensor, the BLUE temp sensor.
