Mend GE 21028GE3-A Ge Dropped Water

GE handset dropped in water?

My niece dropped my GE model 21028GE3-A icordless phone into water and now it is not working. Do I have to replace the phone itself? All my numbers were stored in that phone, will I ever be able to get them back?

My 2yrold daughter did the same thing with ours (toilet). I haven't been able to get it to work since. I AM going to try a new battery, though, before I do anything.
