why does engine run but lawnmower will not move?

Engine is on (Craftsman garden tractor model 917-272442), but will not move forward or backward. How do I fix this?

It was running, but just stopped moving. I do not think I hit anything to cause damage at the time it stopped.

On most like mine its a belt driven transmission so it will proably need a new belt ..look under mower for shredded belt or missing belt
