locate faulty component?

When hot water is drawn, the boiler makes a standard hum then you can hear the burners cutting in and water flowing thro exchanger as normal. As of late the hum is there then what can only be describes as a grinding noise before the burners cut in. The hot water supply is intermittent thereafter.

It is a LS80/100 Little Star- Combi From Ravenheat.
