Creda TCR13, motor runs, but drum will only rotate with help?

Removed side panel and help motor to turn the drum it will run until cycle changes when the motor is not able to restart drum revolving, wondered if a braking mechanism is failing to disengage, had noticed that a curclip on the spindle at the back of the machine had come off, this was replaced and the machine is now in the state as given above, will not rotate without help, heating up fine etc, any ideas.
