My suprima 30-80 has a noisy screeching fan that seems to have stopped the boiler from firing up. Any ideas what the problem is and can I fix it?

Red light flashing all the time and some rads go cold when the hot water comes on.

I had a problem with mine resetting itself all the time...
It was a shorted ignition lead due to the fact that there was a sharp piece of metal in the combustion chamber. It was simple and cost nothing to fix- just needed tieing away from the edge and the problem solved- for nothing!
You need to take 2 screws out to take the cover off and get to this. Its a design fault.

only gas safe engineers should work on boilers. if you mess about with it yourself you are a fool risking the safety of your family.

I had a red flashing light in the cupboard alongside the hot water tank. After checking all the web forums for the flashing red light I did nothing because I could not afford to call someone out. Today the radiators were ice cold. I ran to the thermostat on the wall in my house. The screen was blank - the temperature setting erased. I removed the thermostat from its fitting, rang around friends for four Duracell AA Plus batteries, and replaced the little box. The radiators heated up. As an afterthought late tonight, I checked the box in the cupboard with the red flashing light. The red light is gone. The green light is on. The boiler is working. Cost: four Duracell AA Plus batteries. Is this the solution to the flashing red light? Is it a warning that the batteries in the room thermostat are running low? I think in my case this was so.

My suprima has been doing this for about a year. I have to manually reset it, sometimes this lasts a few hours, sometimes a few minutes before cutting out. I presumed it was the PCB, however with my system all that was required was for the temperature on the store to be set to maximum, no problems since!!

Hi All,
I have a potterton Suprima 50 and it too won't light up. Its stays locked out.....cannot reset it and light up.
I've been on eBay and there seem to be 2 options.
1) Upgrade kit part no. 5111603
2) New pcb part no. 5102160

Whats the difference....and what do I need (most likely) ??

Thanks,
K

can get refurb PCB from CET Ltd for 50 quid - but if you're handy with a soldering iron then take PCB out and re-solder main pins.

Picked up one of these of ebay - brand new in box, bought from someone reselling a load of bankrupt stock. Best bet is to buy the "upgrade kit" which consists of a new PCB, wiring loom, and control panel already assembled. All you have to do is disconnect the old one and pop this in in its place. Mine even came with full instructions on how to do it, with photos and all the parts required (couple of new leads for the electrode, cable ties)

Cost me £80.00, fitted it myself in about an hour with a couple of screwdrivers. Really really easy. If you can deal with a screwdriver you can do it. Worked first time, hasn't cut out once.
