Whether I use the remove or the button on the TV to turn the set on, the red light on the monitor goes on, then immeidately turns off. I unplugged the TV overnight and tried again in the morning, to no avail. TV is one month old. It is a Sharp LCD, Model LC15SH7U.
In addition to Pete's comments, i would suggest strongly that you decline a repair and reject the TV in favour of a refund. That way you will have more peace of mind, and when you buy another TV you will have a full guarantee, and not have lost a month.

As the TV is only 1 month old, return it to the retailer for repair/ refund/replacement.
If you attempt a repair yourself you may invalidate any warranty you have.
