what can i do about the battery light remaining on?

the red battery light is remaining on in my citreon saxo

almost certain you have an alternator problem, have your battery voltage checked with the engine off and again with engine running, should be 13 to 15 volts with engine running, if not then the alternator is not charging hence the light will stay on
