How do i change the timing on my Indesit W161 Washing machine?

My washing machine has decided that it is going to take nearly two hours to do a 40 degree wash cycle, i'm convinced this isn't right is there anything I can do to check or change it?

I forgot to add another crusial point, even if the hot water tap is on, and you have a source of hot water, but the machine may not take that in due to the hot solinoid valve not functioning thus preventing the entery of hot water into the machine, My mother once turned bot Hot and Cold water taps off and forgot to turn them back on again, and next day when she put the washing on, the machine was trying to fill the water but no water would enter as it had been turned off, so what happened next was the solinoid valves became overheated and coils burnt up, and we called in an expert, who couldn't fine the fault and said we need to throw the machine out and get a new one in, well I told my mum don't throw it out yet, let me have a quick look, so it didn't take me 5 minutes to figure out why the machine didn't start, because unless the water is filled to the correct level, a pressure diapharam switch senses how much water has gone into the machine and then signals the electronic board to start. Needless to say that machine worked for another 10 years.

Possibility may be that the machine is waiting for the water temperature to reach 40 degrees C before completing the cycling through and when not able to reach that temp it continues to cycle for a longer time, possible causes may be heater element not working, if it gets hot water from the hot tap, then the hot tap may have been turned off, or is simply not hot enough, if both of above are ruled out then the cause may be with the temperature sensor, not feeding correct information to the control board, or there could be an issue with the control board such as a dry joint or a loose connection, my answer is based on general concepts of washing machines so it may not apply to your particulat model but just as a general guide line.
