I've just bought a 2nd handset (bt equinox 1200) for upstairs and i can't fathom how to register the base of the new phone to the base of my original phone?
It just says on screen 'base 1' and won't ring when the other phone does or be paged from the other phone.
What am i doing wrong?
You don't register the new base, you register the new handset to the old base. Put the old base into register mode and then put the handset into register and they will find each other.
