Mend Vauxhall Vectra 1.8 Battery Alternator

vectra red light on without key?

vauxhall vectra 1.8 has red ing light on when key taken out, have changed alternator now all the lights on the dash stay on all the time and the battrey goes flat in minuits

Did you replace Altenator with a new one or second hand from breakers yard, i have heard of this before on other cars, if the Altenator is no good it can let the power from battery back through which lights up the dashboard, they have a non return diode built in to stop this and it sounds like that has broken down.
