how do i connect my new washing machine?

I am trying to connect my new washing machine, but when i try to unscrew the hosepipes of the old machine from the taps loads of water starts gushing out???

Help!!!

shut off the valve(s) that feed water to your old washer. now there'll be some pressure in the hoses between the washer and the valve(s) leakage is normal. use a towel underneath and remove the hoses. just connect up the hoses to your new machine and turn on the water.
