DVD player says loading, loading, loading only?

I have cut and pasted the Q&A below:

his happened to me a couple times also with my cd player I dont really know but I think you might just have to leave it alone for a while without a dvd in it

So, here are my thoughts:

I have a Mintek flat screen HDTV/DVD player combo that unfortunately has had glitches with the playing of DVDs since day one. Currently, things are worse than ever; it DVD player works maybe 10% of the time. Otherwise, the unit's reaction to an inserted disc is to display "Loading..." for up to a couple of minutes before ejecting the disc.
Upon finding your website and searching it for some time, your sage advice to the most similar question I could find (I admit that the question may be referring to a portable unit) is to "leave it alone for a while."
Wow, and I thought this technology stuff was sure goin' to be tuff for us hillbillies down here in the Southland to unnerstan...'

Don't take it personally, I'm just a bit frustrated when an expensive piece of equipment doesn't work as it should.
Oh, and also when my "young 'uns a crying because they cannot watch their movie that I promised they could once they finished their readin' writin' and 'rithmatic.

Why does this "loading" occur continuously?
How can I get this expensive HDTV/DVD player to work as it is intended to?
