Mend Pull Cord Stopped Working

How can I fix a pull cord light when the pull cord won't oull anymore?

Our pull cord light stopped working. When you pull the cord, it doesn't do anything. I thought it was tangled but that is not the case. Can it be fixed?

It's a basic white base with a metal cage around the bulb.
