Mend Pull Cord Switch

How can I fix my pull cord switch?

My upstairs neighbour had a minor flood and water came down through my bathroom pull cord light switch. the pull cord then stopped working/clicking, ie: doesnt turn the switch on or off. I took it apart and tried to fix it but gave up and bought a new one, only for the new one to do the same thing after 5 pulls! is there a fail safe switch to reset? please help!
