my 18v battery wont keep a charge even though the green lite comes on?

what is the method using a car charger to fix this?

They don't last forever - these batteries.
Some brave people take them apart and fit new cells but it's not a job for the faint-hearted.

I can't imagine a 12V car battery charger having much effect on an 18V tool battery that won't hod its charge .
